Description

This project used Java for the backend and used JavaFX as the frontend of this application. It allowed users to search images from a Spotify API to pull up images related to the user's keywords with a functional loading bar.

This project was my very first experience with seeing how an application looks like with an working interface. All my classes and projects before this point were all projects ran on the command line so this was an exciting project for me to work on. This project also taught me about using APIs and JSON.

Reflection

I learned a lot about the importance of reading documentation from this project. I read a lot of documentation trying to learn and implement JavaFX. While this was an extremely simple project, it helped me see more possibilities and tools that I could use to create which motivated me to continue to learn.

Potential Improvements

Since this was an class assignment that gave specific instructions and did not allow the student to be creative, there really is not much input I could give for improvements since this is more of an learning project.

Description

We created a simple ecommerce game website that allowed customers to purchase games. This was all created in vanilla HTML/CSS and Javascript and we used PHP as the backend language while using MYSQL as the database to pull in all the books.

Role and Experience: Full Stack Developer

This was my very first experience creating a website. I designed the UI/UX and learned the basics of CSS, HTML and Javascript while implementing most of the frontend in this project. I also learned PHP and worked on the backend to implement the log out functionality and cart page button and calculation functionalities. My team was also learning together on how to use Git, so needless to say there were times where someone overwrote my code and merge conflicts.

Reflection

I felt extremely proud in the end of how I made the project looked with limited knowledge. I also learned how to work with PHP and while it was brief, it gave me a rough idea of how requests were made from the database to the frontend.

Potential Improvements

There was some bugs that could be fixed and the frontend could definitely look much better, but this will be one of the projects where I would fondly look back and see where I started from.

Description

For this project, we chose our topic and our team decided to create a project that compared correlations between environmental variables using linear regression. Our main goal in this class was to learn how to clean data and apply some of the models we learned from our data science class using real data.

Role and Experience: Full Stack Developer

For this project, I designed the UI/UX, created most of the frontend using Bootstrap, worked on the backend, incorporated everyone’s individual code into the project and deployed the project. I introduced the idea of frameworks to my groupmates, and I made the decision to use Django since we were using Python in our script. I created very clear documentation on how to run the project but unfortunately, most of my groupmates did not work directly on the repo since they did not end up learning the framework and this caused me to have to piece together everyone’s work into the project.

One of my groupmates created the React map but did not do in the framework so I figured out how React and Node.js worked and how to incorporate it into Django. I also figured out how to incorporate another groupmate's MYSQL database file since they did not learn how to use models in Django to create the database. Unfortunately, we did not end up using the database since my other group member who wrote the code to do the analysis on the data wrote his code in Jupiter Notebook and pulled the data from a csv file instead of the database.

For the backend, I worked on the functionality for compare per country using Python and returning of the images plotted by our functions into the frontend.

Reflection

This project taught me a lot of patience with dealing with team members since everyone's skill levels were different. I was accommodating and did the best I could in this project even though it was just for a class project. Overall, I learned a lot from this project and was proud of us since we ended up being the only group in the class to create a website where the teacher and class can access.

Potential Improvements

To me, this project was lacking in data. I felt like there could be more interesting data variables that could have been compared. The current variables felt redundant to me. Another idea I had was an multilinear regression line to compare more variables. This project could also be more efficient if we had established a database instead of reloading from the csv file every single time calculations were done.

Description

For this project, we created a ecommerce bookstore website that allowed customers to purchase books and for admins to check inventory with a functional emailing system. Our class taught us the agile development methodology and we made this project in increments while submitting deliverables.

Role and Experience: Frontend Developer Team Lead

I designed the UI/UX, built the frontend and mentored my other frontend groupmate. Since I was the only one who knew how to work on the frontend, I took the role designing and implementing a lot of the frontend while mentoring my groupmate on how Bootstrap, CSS, HTML and JavaScript worked. I learned a lot more about Bootstrap during this stage and used more components like modals and carousels. I also learned how to use Thymeleaf while giving support to the backend when we were linking together the backend and frontend. I had tons of fun designing the frontend since this project required a lot of functioning components together with a lot of pages to work on.

This project gave me a taste of working with Spring framework. Since I knew about frameworks, I recommended my team to use a framework since I felt like we would all learn more and be better structured this way. Spring was difficult because of the learning curve but I was very proud of our team because we managed to pull it off and got complimented by the TA since we were the only team to use Spring.

Reflection

This was one of the project's where I felt extremely proud of my team. We communicated well, did our work and even though we had to pull all-nighters to finish deliverables, we all were responsible for our own parts. I enjoyed mentoring and teaching my groupmate and we both did great implementing the frontend. Overall, I learned a lot about frontend in this project and also learned a lot about soft skills.

Potential Improvements

There was some bugs which was mainly little things in the backend. The frontend could use some more styling but I felt like it's pretty good as it is.

Description

Our idea was to create a project that allowed users to search items which will then use an Beautiful Soup script to webscrape Google Shopping to pull up the best prices.

Role and Experience: Frontend Developer

For this project, I designed the UI/UX and implemented frontend while my teammate created the python script for the backend. This was one of the first projects that I tried to complete in an hackathon. This project went by in a daze since we tried to do it in a short period of time for UGA Hacks 6.

Reflection

This project was eye opening because we attempted to complete it within a tight timeline where we only had 2 days to complete it since it was a hackathon. While our project was a good idea, we did not foresee the issue that Google did not allow other parties to web scrape their shopping data so in the end the project did not work out.

Potential Improvements

The main issue was we couldn't webscrape our information from the Google Shopping. If we figure out an alternative and then reimplement it to get it to pull up a list so that it would function then that would be an good first step. Then I could implement the frontend that goes with that part too.

Description

You're on here now! In the earlier days of 2021, I decided to embark on the journey of making my own portfolio. My visions had came a long way but my goal was to mainly make a website that introduced me, listed my job experiences and my projects.

Role and Experience: Full Stack Developer

At the time when I started this project, I had limited knowledge about web development and was in the process of learning Django and Bootstrap. I had a vague idea of the UI/UX design that I wanted when I first began working on this project, but it progressed as I worked on building it. I built upon components that Bootstrap offered and styled them according to my tastes. I was going for a feel that represented me by using my own photography and by using a subtle but colorful light mode and dark mode so I could be more creative.

The backend was built using the Django framework and it used SQLite as the database. I decided to go with SQLite as my database since the data from my project was lightweight. I figured out a lot of the backend as I went since I didn’t have that much knowledge in Django. It was the same for the other important features on my website such as the mailing for my contact me page and for the google ReCAPTCHA.

Reflection

The hardest part of this project was to stay focused on my goals in creating this project because I had so many design ideas that I wanted to incorporate that was out of my skill level. As I progressed in learning more web development tools, I almost scratched this entire project because I also wanted to do something in React. In the end, I realized it is better to finish the basics in what I have, learn more tools, and then fully commit to making an even more responsive and complicated website. Overall, I learned a lot and I'm glad that I was able to complete this project.

Potential Improvements

The main component that is missing in this project to me is for it to be more interactive. I had early ideas of an interactive landing page to interest visitors where they could interact with my page but that proved to be too time consuming for me to focus on. Another idea is for the project section to interest the user more by providing sample images before they click on the button to pull up the modal so they would know what the project is about. I also think I can improve my color selections and add some other UX features.
